We believe that children learn best when they are motivated and interested. We therefore work hard to develop a curriculum which children find exciting and challenging, whatever their ability and interests.

Our creative approach ensures coverage of the curriculum through different learning styles, giving all children the chance to learn in the way that best suits them, whether this be by seeing, hearing or doing. By talking about and sharing their ideas, children come to understand the power of collaboration whilst developing the confidence to ‘have a go’.

The children learn skills, knowledge and concepts through doing and experiencing, then have a chance to be creative to show that they can apply these skills in different situations and contexts.

Class teachers work closely with specialist teachers to ensure the themes are incorporated as much as possible into their lessons, allowing for further enrichment of the children’s learning.

We begin each theme with a ‘Stunning Starter’ which inspires their imaginations, consolidates their knowledge and understanding, and inspires their future learning, with a ‘Marvellous Middle’ and a ‘Fantastic Finish’, which is often something we share with the children’s families and the wider school community.

Every child is encouraged to learn in a way that is meaningful to them. Our approach to teaching and learning enables all children to understand and experience the skills they will need for life and is based on the King’s Ely Learning Habits Framework.
