School bus routes

Throughout King’s Ely Acremont, Prep, Senior and Sixth Form, students make use of the school’s private bus services to the surrounding areas. The bus routes are flexible and frequently adjusted to take account of the location of King’s Ely families’ homes. Please contact the Admissions team for an up-to-date bus timetable and details of the routes. Please note that pupils must be in Year 1 and above in order to travel to and from school via our bus service. At the time of booking, we also have to consider any current legislation on height restriction that may prohibit travel.

Travelling by public transport, bike and on foot

Ely Station is located within a very short walk of the school and the excellent train service from Kings Lynn, Thetford, Downham Market, Waterbeach, Cambridge, Royston, Audley End and beyond makes the train a convenient way for many students to travel. Secure bike racks are located near to the main entrance of King’s Ely Junior and some families enjoy this way of travelling to and from school. With the school being within the limits of this beautiful city, many students walk to and from school each day.

Trainline offers King’s Ely students a Discounted Student Travel Season Ticket when travelling to and from school. The 16-25 Railcard (also known as the Student Railcard or Young Persons Railcard) is a discount card giving you 1/3 off eligible train tickets in Great Britain.

Student parking in Sixth Form

Students are encouraged to come to school using the most healthy forms of transport; by bicycle or on foot in the first instance, or by public transport. Nevertheless, some students in the Sixth Form find it more convenient to drive to school. There is limited parking within the Old Palace or at the rear of the Hayward Theatre. Currently, parking in Ely is free of charge, though timings are restricted. Parental permission is requested from Jane Halls, Sixth Form Supervisor, before students are allowed to drive to school. Use of cars to matches and other activities during the school day is not permitted. Student passengers are permitted only under special circumstances when travelling to and from school at the start and end of the school day and only with the written permission of both the driver’s parent/guardian AND that of any passenger.
