Whether you are a beginner or an elite sportsperson, King’s Ely Junior offers a valuable experience and myriad opportunities for all to enjoy. The team of highly qualified and enthusiastic staff ensure that the boys and girls receive expert tuition in a safe and caring environment.

Pupils in Years 5 to 8 experience two afternoons of Games a week and one Physical Education (PE) lesson. Our Year 3 and 4 pupils have two Games lessons and one period of PE.

Fixtures are played primarily on a Wednesday afternoon. The major sports played are:

Michaelmas Term

Boys: Rugby Union
Girls: Hockey

Lent Term

Boys: Association Football
Girls: Netball

Summer Term

Boys: Cricket
Girls: Cricket and Tennis

Some Year 8 pupils are encouraged to pursue the opportunity to take part in Rowing during the year in addition.

There are many opportunities to represent the school at one of these sports, with inter-House matches also being offered. A good number of our boys and girls play representative sport at District, County, Regional and even National level.

These sports are supplemented by our wide ranging PE programme, which through the years offers athletics, basketball, cross-country, dance, gymnastics, keep fit, swimming, tennis and volleyball. We firmly believe that there is a sport for everyone and we aim to expose our pupils to as many sporting experiences as possible, in line with the school’s holistic and inclusive ethos.

Our first-class facilities include a full-sized Astroturf with floodlights, a Sports Hall, a heated swimming pool, seven tennis courts and over 50 acres of well-maintained grass pitches.
