Rowing is offered to students in Year 8 at King’s Ely Junior. All students have the opportunity to request rowing as their major sport in any one, or all three school terms. Selection depends on their level of involvement with team games and fixtures in any term.

Students who choose to row will have the opportunity to learn to scull in a variety of boat classes, from the Oct (eight students and a cox) right the way down to single sculls. Our boathouse is five minutes away from the school campus and provides easy access to one of the best stretches of water in the country for rowing.

Our excellent teachers and coaches encourage enjoyment and passion for rowing and healthy living within a pupil-led environment. The rowing program is designed to be enjoyable and fun for all participants and to promote self-confidence and good communication skills.

In addition to the two games sessions per week, students also have the opportunity to partake in additional rowing on a Tuesday afternoon (Erg Club) and several Saturday morning sessions throughout the year.

Students are provided with the opportunity to compete in at least three regattas throughout the year, including regattas on the London 2012 Olympic course, and at the junior sculling event at Blenheim Palace.

Our coaching team consists of British Rowing qualified coaches, Junior teachers and former rowers (including a former Oxford Blue), and is coordinated by the Head of Rowing, Craig Ward.
