OUR first Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Assessed Expedition of the new academic year took place over the weekend (October 5th-6th).

Working in three independent groups, eighteen Year 10 students navigated their way across the Suffolk countryside east of Thetford over two days with an overnight stay at Thorpe Woodlands Adventure Centre.

Assistant Director of Outdoor Education at King’s Ely Senior, Martin Bray, said: “We had very pleasant conditions on the Saturday and the students made good time into camp. With tents up, a range of camp meals were cooked on trangia stoves, before settling down for a well-earned sleep.

“Sunday was considerably wetter with heavy persistent rain, but all groups were on their way by 9.30am and ploughed on to their respective finish points with few quibbles. Well done to all who took part.

“Thank you to Toby Humphry, Ben Smith and Katharine Wege for all their help and support on the trip and also to Ely Scheme Pupil Instructors Molly Whymark and Eleanor Wallace for their input over the weekend.”
