Our Reception pupils at King's Ely Acremont Pre-Prep had a fin-tastic time exploring SEA LIFE Hunstanton!
The fun-filled trip to Norfolk was organised to tie in with and enrich the children's learning topic, 'Beside the Seaside'.
Mrs Heather Strudwick, who is our Head of Early Years and one of our Reception Teachers, said: "On arrival at the centre, we took part in a teaching session focusing on the inhabitants of rock pools. Amongst other things, we identified shells and shark egg-cases, discovered more about recognising different crabs, and learned some amazing facts about starfish – did you know that when they eat, a starfish’s stomach exits their mouth to digest the food and re-enters the body when they have finished eating?
"We then spent the rest of our morning looking around the centre. The beautiful, graceful rays were fascinating, and everyone would have been more than happy to sit and watch them for much longer than we were able to! We were delighted to observe the seahorses using their prehensile tails to grasp the seaweed, and the children impressed us with their observations and thoughtful questions throughout the visit. After watching the seals demonstrating their amazing swimming moves in the pool, we ended our visit by walking through the underwater tunnel. Ernie the giant turtle was resting on the seabed when we arrived, but delighted us by swimming around in front of the viewing window, almost as if he was putting on a special performance for us."
No trip to 'Sunny Hunny' would be complete without a picnic on the beach with some sandcastle building and shell collecting thrown in for good measure!
