The transition to higher education is, for most of our students, the next step after school, and our Director of Higher Education has many years’ experience of guiding students successfully through the process.
Your specialist tutor will guide you towards applying to universities and colleges that make the most of your individual abilities, including institutions in countries as diverse as the USA, New Zealand, China and Member States of the EU.
Parents and guardians are involved through an annual conference, at which speakers from universities in the UK (including Cambridge) as well as overseas (e.g. Harvard) will help you to think systematically about what could lie ahead.
In the Summer Term of Year 12, you will participate in workshops focusing on choosing a course wisely and writing an effective personal statement. If you are applying for Oxbridge and Medicine, you can attend interview preparation courses in London.
You may choose to postpone your university application until after you receive your A Level results. The Sixth Form team will support and advises you, even after you have left the school.

Students who wish to undertake Degree apprenticeships, which combine full-time employment with academic study, are helped to identify likely employers and apply directly to them. Similarly, those who wish to apply for a higher apprenticeship, which involves working full-time while carrying out part-time study, are signposted to likely employers and supported as they apply directly to them. Meanwhile, those who wish to pursue a foundation degree are supported as they apply through UCAS, along with those wanting to study a standard degree. Students who are looking for a complete alternative to higher education are supported with applying for entry-level jobs, traineeships, internships and work experience or even starting their own business. They are given help with personal presentation skills, including interview skills. In addition, those who wish to take a gap year, whether they intend to go on to university afterwards or are not sure what they want to do in the future, are advised on the plethora of opportunities available to them. We also support those Old Eleans who might decide to apply to university after a few years of working. |
