A CONCERT held at King’s Ely to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War has raised £1,500 for charity.

King’s Ely’s Symphony Orchestra, String Orchestra, the Spikes group, Jazz band, Sax Quartet, Chamber Choir, Concert Band, Ely Cathedral Girls’ Choir and the King’s Barbers put on an incredibly moving and powerful concert in the Recital Hall on November 16th.

The concert was called ‘We will remember them…’ and the £1,500 raised will be split between Help for Heroes and the Old Dispensary Appeal.

Director of Music at King’s Ely, Neil Porter-Thaw, said: “The concert was King’s Ely’s way of commemorating the end of the Great War and the Old Eleans who served. The standard of musicianship was quite staggering so early in the term and the visuals, stories and poems beautifully added to the occasion. Congratulations to all involved.”
