Throughout the Michaelmas Term, all Year 9 students competed in our annual ‘Ely Scheme Challenge’.

Ely Scheme is our unique outdoor education programme, which offers pupils boundless opportunities and experiences when they start at King’s Ely Senior.

Whether students have moved up to Year 9 from King’s Ely Prep or joined us from other schools, the Ely Scheme Challenge is a fantastic way for them all to get to know each other, forge existing friendships and form new ones, improve their teambuilding and communication skills, test their resilience, and so much more.

Working in teams and representing their Houses, pupils have to complete tasks, including pioneering, climbing and abseiling, initiative tests, tent construction, assault course challenges, and general knowledge.

Mr James Houlston, our Director of Outdoor Education, said: “Year 9s were excellent throughout the term, despite some very testing weather conditions. As ever, teams were all keen to beat each other on behalf of their Houses!

“All pupils should be very proud of their achievements. Congratulations to ‘Withburga Y’ and ‘Wilkinson X’ teams, who received their winning shields in assembly just before the end of term.

“Thank you to all of the Pupil Instructors who helped to coach the Year 9s in the build up to the challenge, and to all staff who were involved in marshalling the activities. A real team effort!”

At King’s, we believe that learning is all about educating young people for life. This is why we invest so much time and energy into our co-curricular, extra-curricular and enrichment programmes, for children in Nursery right the way through to Sixth Form.
