TODAY’S #ThankyouThursday goes to King’s Ely Sixth Form student, Eliza Iles.

Eliza, who is in Year 13, is joining St John Ambulance next month as a volunteer to help support patients before and after they receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

Eliza, who has been at King’s Ely since joining our Prep School in Year 6, said: “I’ve been looking for ways to get involved in helping with the pandemic response and the vaccination programme is vital in supporting the NHS. This voluntary role with St John Ambulance seemed a perfect way to get involved and help out whilst also getting some relevant healthcare experience.”

Eliza is studying Chemistry, Biology and Maths for her A Levels, and hopes to study Medicine at University, so the role will also provide her with some relevant experience for the future.

She said: “I have completed online training and have a face-to-face training session on 7th February, and after that I will be allocated my first shifts. I will be meeting and greeting patients, ensuring they are comfortable, reassuring them pre and post vaccine, and helping them to navigate the vaccination centre. I will also need to be able to recognise and respond as needed to any medical emergency, which might include helping a patient with their breathing if they have an allergic reaction to the vaccine, and I am undertaking final training for this at the moment.”

Well done Eliza – what a fantastic thing to do!
