KING’S Ely Boat Club had its last race of 2021 on December 5th.

The event was a quadrangular race with Bedford Modern School, Norwich School and Star Club Rowing on the River Great Ouse in Bedford.

Thirty-four students from Years 9-13 at King’s competed on what was a cold and windy day.

Congratulations to Conall Comley and Will Buckingham for winning the J18 Double race; to Conall again for winning the J18 Single race; and to James Warren, James Barber, Travis Bierton, Matthew Chippington, Daniel Ford, Lara Wells, Benedict Rose, Zac Williams-Gray and Robert Reed for winning the J14 Octuple race.

Craig Ward, our Head of Rowing, said: “We also had plenty of 2nd placings in tough categories, including WJ18 Double (Mia Gray and Annie Moore); WJ18 Single (Annie Moore); WJ15 Quad (Anna Platt, Abigail Biggs, Indigo Flatman, Pippa Giles and Mary Garrod).

“It was fantastic for our Year 9 boats to enjoy their first racing experience away from the Ely stretch and come away with a new experience in rowing. As ever, our Year 10s keep making great strides technically and are now barely recognisable from the start of the year!

“A huge well done to all our squads who competed! Saturday 11th December will see us ending 2021 with the infamous pudding races at the Boathouse – do come along and support!”
