THEY did it!

James Foster, our Graduate Rowing Coach, and his fellow Race4Rene crew mates, completed their epic Trans-Atlantic yacht race in 16 days, 15 hours, 28 minutes and 32 seconds!

Despite minimal training, the novice crew came 3rd in their category and 5th overall. As reported, the team challenged themselves to take part in Race4Rene in memory of their friend, René, who tragically died from depression by suicide in 2017, aged 22.

James and his teammates have raised more than £45,000 so far, every penny of which will be shared with two charities – PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide and Child Bereavement UK.

A statement on the Race4Rene Facebook page reads: “To our crew – we are so, so proud of what you have achieved and who you have done it for. Thank you for everything and we hope you are enjoying the novelty of dry land!

“To our supporters – thank you for your continued support and generosity throughout our bonkers journey to crossing the Atlantic. Your support has kept us going throughout and means so much to us and our charities.

“To René – we hope that our journey has made others going through a similar experience realise that asking for help really should not be as hard as crossing an ocean. This challenge was for you – you are missed every day and we wish that we were able to sail alongside you. We’ve had you leading us all the way and hope that we have done you proud.”
