Patrick will be studying Automotive Engineering with a year in industry at Loughborough University after achieving the A-Level grades he needed.
Patrick joined King's Ely Senior in Year 9 from St Faith's School in Cambridge. He studied Maths, Physics, and Design Technology at A-Level. Patrick also completed an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), titled: ‘Is auto-racing environmentally sustainable?’
When asked what he plans to do career wise, Patrick said: "I am passionate about motorsport, particularly Formula 1, and I am looking to pursue a career within the industry. I would also love to have the opportunity to take up a trackside position, allowing me to travel around the world with the sport."
To describe King's in three words, Patrick chose "community, opportunities, unique".
When asked what the teaching and learning environment is like at King's, Patrick said: "I found the teaching to be nothing short of exactly what I needed to succeed. The small classes, truly committed teachers, and continuous support provided throughout my entire time at King’s really did allow me to thrive. The support from teachers was particularly unmatched during exam season. Drop-in sessions, revision notes, and educated advice were all key to my A-Level preparations and, ultimately, results."
Patrick relished in the co-curricular and enrichment programmes here at King's.
He said: "I was an Ely Scheme Instructor and an avid rower for years, I completed all levels of the Duke of Edinburgh's Awards, and I participated in climbing trips to the Peak District. However, the activity that I most enjoyed was that of starting and leading the Greenpower Racing Team. Not only did this provide some excellent downtime for me, working in a field of engineering that I love, but it also provided exceptional lifelong experience, which will undoubtedly not only improve my employability in the field but also have educated and motivated me as I move to University."
When asked what he will miss most about King's, Patrick said: "I will definitely miss the people the most. While most who know me may be surprised that I did not say the DT Department, the feeling of family at King’s is unmatched, with students and staff always being friendly and social. The Sixth Form Socials throughout the year are for sure my favourite memories of King’s.
"King’s is more of a family than a school, with the frequent House events and Sixth Form Socials always reinforcing this. Everyone from staff to students were always very involved in working to make King’s evermore social and exciting. A particular highlight for me was the yearly OsFest, and I will undoubtedly be making a visit back to King’s for the next one.
"King’s is unquestionably the best thing to have happened to my education, while also having allowed me to gain many lifelong friendships. I found it to be a unique environment, and I truly think King's has the best education to offer."
Congratulations Patrick - enjoy Loughborough and keep in touch!
