Elena achieved the A-Level grades that she needed to study International Politics and French at the University of Bath.

Elena joined King's Ely Senior in Year 10 from a school in Singapore.

Elena studied French, Politics, and Fine Art for her A-Levels. She also completed an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), on the theme: 'Redesign the Cricket Pavilion for School Field, taking into account sustainability’. 

We caught up with Elena after she received her A-Level results to find out more about her King's experience and what her next steps are...

Elena, what career path do you plan on pursuing?

While it is different to what I will be studying in Bath, I would like to eventually pursue my ongoing interest in interior design. I hope to use the language element of my course to help with studying that abroad in the future.

What is the quality and style of teaching like at King’s?

I am incredibly grateful for the teachers I had throughout my time at King’s, especially during Sixth Form. What I achieved in my A-Levels is a true reflection of the passion from my teachers and the support I received from them. They really guided me throughout the busy exam periods, whether that be by giving up some time to help me during their holidays or providing constant and useful feedback. This contributed to the change in my performance academically, and my understanding of the subjects. 

I feel very lucky to have had a great relationship with my teachers, as it allowed me to learn in a comfortable and supportive environment which really encouraged me. Where I sometimes struggled in keeping up with certain topics, their patience and belief in me is something I am so thankful for. 

What else did you participate in during your time at King’s?

I really wanted to make the most of the opportunities on offer, especially with the sport, as I came from a very sports-orientated school. At King’s, I was able to play for the 1st Football Team, which was great fun, as well as representing the school in various other sports. I also enjoyed introducing Girls’ Rugby at King’s, alongside Eve. It was a big part of our lives in our previous schools, and so it felt good to get started again with a great group of girls. I would say that especially in my final year at King’s, I really took myself out of my comfort zone with a lot of the things I participated in. I was lucky to be Co-Deputy Head of Torfrida House, which was a great experience, and I took part in many of the House events, such as Fen Brainage, Sword and Dagger, and Martin Doyle. I also took part in various language events to boost my confidence, as well as helping at the Prep School with French lessons, which I found a very rewarding experience. 

Do you feel that you have been well supported pastorally at King’s?

I feel that King’s is a safe and comfortable environment to be in, as there is support all over the school. My Form Tutor, Housemistress, the Duty Staff, and the entire Sixth Form Team were always there for me if I needed them. 

What will you miss most about King’s and what did you enjoy most during your time here?

What I will miss most about King’s is the people and the sense of community, especially once you reach Sixth Form. The school events are something I will miss a lot, and they really help you get to know lots of new people. The friends I made and the positive relationships I formed with teachers will be ones I will take with me for a long time!

In what ways do you think King’s is unique or special compared to other schools?

The everyday experience at King’s is so unique. The fact that the school buildings are scattered around Ely makes walking to lessons a unique experience, as well as the use of the Cathedral for many school events. I would also definitely say the people, as they are what makes the atmosphere at King’s so enjoyable.
