AUSTRALIAN poet and Old Elean (1976-1983), John Leonard, is seeking to become Oxford University’s Professor of Poetry next year.

John, who attended Oxford University, and then emigrated to Australia in 1991, needs the endorsements of 50 holders of degrees from Oxford University to get on the ballot for this elected position.

John said: “It won’t be easy gaining election from the other side of the world, but I’d like to have a chance to tell people the lessons I’ve learnt from my poetry-writing career, to tell people about Australian poetry, and the strong connections I can make between my Green politics and poetry.”
