Mary will be studying Classical Studies at Newcastle University after achieving the A-Level grades she needed.
Mary joined King's Ely Prep in Year 3. She studied Classical Civilisation, History, and Physical Education at A-Level.
When asked what she plans to do career wise, Mary said: "I am not too sure yet but I hope that the next three years will inspire me!"
To describe King's in three words, Mary chose "encouraging, opportunities, unforgettable".
When asked what the teaching and learning environment is like at King's, Mary said: "From my first few days in Year 3 to my last few days in Year 13, I felt welcomed and supported by all of the teachers and staff. At A-Level, both the Classics and History Departments were huge support systems for me, with friendly and approachable teachers. The History Department always went above and beyond to support students. I am so grateful for the help that I had through Senior School, especially with my A-Level coursework! The Classics Department always provided an encouraging environment that pushed me to do my best, and it was the Classics Teachers who inspired me to study the subject further at University, especially Dr Knox, who was so helpful with my University application."
Outside the classroom, Mary could usually be found at the Boat Club. She was not only appointed a Sports Scholar but also our Captain of Boats for the 2024-25 season.
Mary said: "I rowed at King's from Year 8, and truly loved every second! I have represented King's at GB trials, Henley Royal Regatta, National Schools' Regatta, and many more races. The highlight of Rowing at King's had to be the coaches! Giving up their early mornings, weekends, and school holidays for camps and training sessions, they always went the extra mile. Mr Ward led the team with a friendly and supportive nature, and whose technical expertise and coaching abilities led me to GB trials, teaching me everything that I know today. I am going to miss the King's Boat Club so much but I am immensely grateful for all of the memories created! I am very excited to continue Rowing in Newcastle."
When asked what else she will miss about King's, Mary said: "I will miss my friends, some of whom I have known since Year 3, the caring teachers, and the close-knit community of the Sixth Form. I was lucky enough to attend the Prep School, Senior School, and Sixth Form. Although I loved every phase, I could not recommend the Sixth Form enough! These were definitely my best two years at King's, with the perfect mix of freedom and support that has led me to feel well prepared for University."
Congratulations Mary - enjoy Newcastle and keep in touch!
