KING’S Ely student Archie Tarbuck has been selected for the Eastern Counties U16 squad.

Archie, 16, from Witchford, near Ely, was put through his paces in a series of trials before being selected as one of the outstanding boys into the final squad. The standard of players attending the trials was extremely high, so for Archie to be selected is a fantastic achievement. Following on from this squad selection, he has now been picked for the team to face Leicestershire.

Head of Rugby at King’s Ely, Jim Thompson, commented: “Archie was a standout performer for the Kings Ely 1st XV last term and he has impressed with his high work rate and strong leadership skills. He fully deserves his call up to the Eastern Counties squad.”

Archie was thrilled at being selected: “I feel honoured to be selected and will do my utmost to ensure that Ely Tigers, Cambridge Rugby Club and my school, King’s Ely, who have all been instrumental in my development, are proud of my performance.”

King’s Ely has a proud history of boys being selected for Eastern County squads, with a number of students being picked in recent years. The current development programme at the school prepares boys for trials such as these with its enhanced reputation of rugby coaching.
