A King’s Ely Senior girl has been offered places at both the Guildhall School of Music and the Royal College of Music.

Saskia Porter-Thaw, 18, an A Level student studying Psychology, Textiles and Music, auditioned for the two conservatoires last month. As well as being offered a place at both conservatoires, Saskia has won a place in the National Youth Wind Orchestra saxophone ensemble. This ensemble is made up of mostly 1st and 2nd year students.

All three of these achievements are quite outstanding, as Jonathan Kingston, Director of Music at King’s Ely, explains: Saskia has given a tremendous amount to music at King’s Ely during her many years as a pupil. She is a true all-rounder and her contributions to school music have consistently been at the highest level. The King’s community is immensely proud of Saskia and pleased for her as she continues to forge ahead as an exceptional saxophonist. To have secured offers from two of the very finest conservatoires represents a huge level of tenacity and dedication and to have been awarded a place at NYWO in addition, only confirms our view that she is already an exceptionally fine musician.”
