IT was a busy weekend for King’s Ely’s rowers, with students competing in the Bedford Regatta on (Saturday) May 11th and Nottingham Regatta on (Sunday) May 12th.

Saturday saw all age groups take to the 1,200m course. The Girls’ Senior Quad narrowly missed out to Emanuel School by just 1/2 length, despite knowing they didn’t get a clean start to the race. The Year 10 Quads had a mixed day with a blade break ending the boys’ race and steering making it difficult for the girls’ races.

For some Year 9 rowers it was their first ever regatta and they will all take a lot away from their races. The boys and girls’ boats all raced well including Georg Graepel, William Biggs, Ben Kittoe and Vakaris Tamosaitis who were expertly guided down the course by Isabella Boutwood. They (pictured) stormed down the course in their semi-final and final to win their event!

Sunday was a perfect day for racing; sunny and calm. The Year 10/11 Squads took to racing in small boats over a 1,000m course. The day was a real learning experience for them understanding how to race in small boats, finding the balance between power and technique to move the boat effectively. There were some great races, particularly from Mia Gray coming 3rd in category and Will Buckingham and Conall Comley coming 2nd in category.

Well done all!
