MEMBERS of King’s Ely Junior’s ‘Eco Committee’ are investigating the amount of food waste generated during Junior School lunch sittings in the Monastic Barn.

Matthew Kneeshaw, our Deputy Catering Manager, has been weighing the food waste from each Junior School (Years 3-8) lunch sitting since we all returned to school earlier this month. In just two lunchtime sittings, 21.1 kilograms of food was accumulated.

Mr Kneeshaw told Year 7 members of the Eco Committee that the Catering Team are looking at ways of reducing this waste – and at alternative environmental methods of disposing of it.

The Catering Team and the Eco Committee will further discuss these options once Covid-19 restrictions are lifted and meetings can recommence!
