DIANA Bayliss from Black Cat Theatre visited King’s Ely Junior to run a fascinating Indian shadow puppet workshop and show with our Year 4 pupils.

The day began with a performance of the tale of the Ramayana, one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India, the other being the Mahābhārata.

The children then learned how to make their own puppets of different characters, thinking about the importance of the silhouette and using coloured gels to provide detail.

In the afternoon, they then performed their versions of the story to each other, gaining a newfound appreciation for the skill of professional puppeteers!
