The first leg of our 2024 French Exchange was merveilleux from start to finish!

Thirty-one Senior students and four members of staff spent seven days with our fabulous host families in Toulouse earlier this month.

The week was jam-packed with learning, experiences and laughter, with visits to UNESCO heritage sites, a scavenger hunt in the vibrant streets of Toulouse, and a snowy, sporty day in The Pyrenees.

Mrs Brigitte Bousquet, who is Head of French and Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) at King’s Ely Senior, said: “We also experienced French cuisine at its best, eating locally-bred cattle in one of the most famous restaurants in the region. The week was nothing short of exhilarating!

“Beyond the excitement, this exchange served a vital linguistic purpose. Students seized countless opportunities to hone their French skills, immersing themselves in diverse accents and colloquialisms. The MFL Department at King’s Ely takes immense pride in providing such enriching experiences.

“What better way to master a language and understand its culture than by fully embracing it for a week? Such experiences not only enhance linguistic ability but also foster resilience and adaptability; essential traits for the development of well-rounded individuals.”

Following another successful German Exchange with our partner school, Gymnasium Remchingen, last year, planning is now underway for the exchange programme for next academic year! This is open to all Years 8 and 9 students who will be studying German in September 2024. Students/families who are interested in participating should speak to Mrs Bousquet or email: brigittebousquet@kingsely.org

Our French Department is also organising a linguistic and cultural trip to Paris from October 30th to November 5th, 2024. This trip is open to current Years 10, 11 and 12 students who will be studying French next academic year. Students need to register their interest by Monday, March 25th. To do so or for more information, speak to Mrs Bousquet or Mr Louis Pinier, or email: brigittebousquet@kingsely.org or louispinier@kingsely.org
