We had a fantastic time at the East Anglian Prep School Athletics Championships – places at the National Champs were secured, personal bests were achieved, and our mission to keep as many athletes as possible hydrated was accomplished!

Talented Junior athletes from across the region came together at Bedford International Athletic Stadium for the competition yesterday (Friday June 9th).

Nine King’s Ely Junior pupils secured a place at the event – Qiba Westfield-Airey, Harry Green, Finley Dines, Jacob Dines, Desola Arimiyau, Alastair Wright, Penelope Birkwood, Lotte Hulscher, and Emily Bryan.

Brothers, Finley and Jacob, were competing in javelin. They both qualified for the National Champs after each placing 2nd. The Dines Duo also achieved personal bests – Jacob threw 26.9m and Finley threw 34.1m. Congratulations chaps!

Harry paced his 800m excellently, securing 3rd place in the final – and that was after he raced in the 200m earlier in the day. Penelope achieved a brilliant 4th place in long jump.

Lotte made it through to the 100m final and came 7th. Desola (100m), Alastair (1,500m), Emily (100m), and Qiba (100m), were all on fine form in their races, where competition, as well as the hot and humid conditions, were tough.

Well done to all our pupils who competed – securing a place at this event is an achievement in itself, let alone coming away with placings and personal bests. Thank you to Mrs McAlinden and Miss Bird for accompanying the pupils and supporting them on the day.

Thank you also to Mr Bullivant and Miss Matthews for attending the event with the ‘Hydration Station’ – a new initiative by our Marketing Team, which provided free water for ALL competitors and supporters throughout the day!
