A SLICE of Great British Bake Off fever among the youngest pupils at King’s Ely has raised hundreds of pounds for charity.
Willow Barry, a Reception pupil at King’s Ely Acremont, was so moved by the recent devastation of Hurricane Irma that she decided a cake sale in school could be a good way to raise money for the victims and their families.
Pupils, their families and staff at King’s Ely Acremont and Nursery went baking crazy in preparation for the cake sale, which was held in the school playground on September 22nd.
A grand total of £402 has been raised so far for the British Red Cross, whose aid-workers are on the ground delivering support to those worst affected by the devastating natural disaster.
Acting Head and Reception teacher at King’s Ely Acremont, Sarah Stevens, said: “The devastation caused by Hurricane Irma really hit a chord with Willow. She talked to the Reception children about her concerns and suggested we hold a cake sale to raise money for the victims. We were overwhelmed by the response from parents and children alike. The money raised will enable the British Red Cross to purchase three kitchen kits and 13 jerry cans of fresh water for the victims of the disaster.”
