EIGHT of our Year 10 King’s Ely International (KEI) students – with Mr Armour and Mr Pringle – attended The SSE Arena, Wembley on March 4th to join in on the annual ‘WE Day’ celebrations!

WE Day is a powerful event series, held in over 15 cities across the US, Canada, the UK and the Caribbean, to bring together world-renowned speakers, award-winning performers, millions of young people and educators to celebrate and inspire another year of incredible change.

Mr Pringle, Teacher of Biology and Chemistry at KEI, said: “This year’s celebrities included Idris Elba, Lewis Hamilton, Jamie Oliver and Leona Lewis, to name just a few.

“They all talked on a variety of topics. For instance, Idris talked about growing up in an area of London where he could have made the wrong choice but knew that he had to make the right one. Lewis Hamilton talked about climate change. Leona Lewis sang and hosted a number of chats and interviews with various people.

“For me, one very memorable talk was given by a young lady who was a refugee from Syria. She spoke movingly about how they had to leave Syria, cross eight countries to finally reach safety in Germany. She was a swimmer in Syria and in Germany she was able to take up the sport again, and she competed in the Refugee World Olympics.

“Another girl who spoke had been in a similar position, and has studied to become a doctor. Very humbling and moving stories. This was all combined with various music acts (which Mr Armour and I hardly knew, clearly showing our age!) to make for a very positive, lively and inspiring day. I would recommend WE Day to anyone!”
