OLD Eleans, Maria Campbell and India Thomas, are putting their best feet forward in the TCS London Marathon on Sunday, October 2nd.

It is the duo’s first ever marathon. Maria is raising funds for Cancer Research UK (CRUK) and India is raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT).

India and Maria are both in their final year at the University of Exeter; Maria is studying Modern Languages and India is studying International Relations.

Maria said: “I decided to run for CRUK because the research they do is so important, and could benefit us or any of our loved ones at any point. The training has been hard work but the two things that have kept me motivated are running with a friend and a really great playlist!”

India said: “I first thought the London Marathon would be something I would love to do when I was a member of the school running club under Miss Stewart. It’s a classic sporting challenge and such a fantastic way to raise money for amazing charities like TCT.

“I decided to raise money for TCT because it’s an awesome charity whose work makes such a difference to young people and their families going through tough circumstances.

“Training has been going well so far. Some of the longer runs have been challenging and experimenting with gels has been interesting, but doing them with Maria has helped with motivation a lot. If anyone needs routes round Ely we’ve got a few too many!”
