Full name:

Mollie Beatrice Betts

Where did you grow up?

My family lives in Suffolk. Aside from moving to Cambridge for University, I have always lived at home with my family in the same little old thatched cottage. I love being at home!

Education:

I began my education at our local primary school, Kedington Primary, before moving to Parkway Middle School until Year 6. I then wanted to move schools and joined Linton Village College. I then attended Hills Road Sixth Form and went on to Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge to study Music.

Your previous role and place of work:

My degree finished in January this year which meant I had a lot of time until my job at Ely would start. During my degree I held a part time job at Fitzbillies in Cambridge as a Cake Shop Assistant, so following my degree I continued my role at Fitzbillies. I loved working in the cake shop because when the seasons changed, so did the selection of cakes. Also, most importantly I love eating cake! (and so did my family when I brought boxes of Chelsea buns home!)

What are you most looking forward to about working at King’s Ely?

I am so excited to start my role as the Graduate Musician in Residence. The ethos of King’s Ely really resonated with me and I am looking forward to getting stuck in and educating young musicians alongside the teaching staff.

Hobbies/interests outside of school:

My love for Music extends to outside of school. A charity I have volunteered with this year is Sing Inside, where we teach Music to people in prisons. I am also a huge foodie and love nothing more than going out for breakfast or lunch in new places.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

My family always bring this up at any party because this is a bit of a funny one… When I was little I wanted to be a butcher! My dad and I love cooking and have always enjoyed taking trips to the butchers and food markets so naturally I imagined it to be the ideal career!

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

To be able to make everyone happy.

What was the last book you read?

I’m slightly embarrassed to say that I can’t remember the last book I read. I get bored quickly and very often start books and don’t finish them. My auntie, Sara Evans, has recently published her new book, ‘When the last lion roars’ so that is my next reading project.

What song are you most likely to sing at a karaoke?

It’s unlikely that you’d find me at a karaoke event but if by some miracle you got me there, I’d blast out ‘Mr Brightside’ by The Killers!

What is your favourite film?

My all time favourite film is ‘Flushed Away’. It’s very silly!

Do you have any phobias or fears?

I’m not scared of anything in particular (apart from spiders) but I am such a jumpy person. I jump at people sneezing, a loud laugh or even a pin dropping on the floor!

Name three things you would want with you if stranded on a desert island for a week:

1. A multi-pack of Walkers Ready Salted crisps
2. A hairband
3. A magic wand to wish for infinite wishes!
