Five Minutes With... Eve Williams, Co-Head of School for 2025-26

September 2025

In which year group did you join King’s?

I joined King's Ely Prep in Year 7.

What A-Level subjects are you studying?

Maths, History, and Art.

What is your favourite subject and why?

That is a tricky question, but probably History because I love learning about things in the past that have influenced society today. I also really like the related History extra-curriculars at school.

What extra-curricular activities are you involved in at King’s?

I am in the Girls' Football Team and I am really keen to get more girls involved in Rugby. I enjoy Chapel Choir and being a Pupil Instructor for Ely Scheme, as well as attending History Café and ‘An Other Club’, which is a Sixth Form History/Politics discussion group led by Mr Currie, where I have definitely learnt a lot over this past year!

Describe King’s in three words:

Energetic, encouraging, ambitious.

What do you think makes King’s a unique place to study?

For me, the people make the place. I think the quality and compassion of the teachers here makes studying at King’s a joy. I love my friends immensely and I do not think I could go through school without them! Also, the opportunities on offer at King's are endless, so that definitely adds to the school's uniqueness.

Do you board at King’s? If so, what is the boarding experience like here?

Yes, I have boarded here since Year 7, so I have been in Priory House, Wendreda House, and now Hill House. I love living with my friends. I look forward to School Tea everyday, and just being able to chat and relax. I also really appreciate the structure of boarding - it enables me to keep on top of my work which is very appreciated! I am also really grateful to have such great teachers around us all the time, making the House feel like a family more than anything.

How do you feel to have been appointed Co-Head of School?

When I was told that I had been appointed, I really could not believe that I was old enough to even be a Head of School! Now that I am in the role I still do not feel old enough! It is quite a surreal feeling, definitely nerve-wracking as I really look up to last year's Heads of School (Edie and Yanki) and I think it is quite hard to follow such a great duo! I am very lucky to be surrounded by a great Prefect Team, so I feel confident in our group as a whole and excited about what we will achieve this year!

What do you hope to achieve in your capacity as Co-Head of School?

My main goal is for the school to feel even more cohesive than it already is, creating an environment where Prefects are known throughout Acremont, Prep, and Senior school, and that we are actively seen as supportive, useful leaders.

What are your plans for after Sixth Form? Do you know what career you would like to pursue yet?

I think after Year 13 I am planning to take a Gap Year. I was lucky enough to go on the Kenya Trip last term, and that experience made me realise that I would love to do a gap term there, along with travelling. I intend to continue studying at Uni, probably doing History of Art or History, and I have no clue what will follow that, but hopefully something I enjoy!

Hobbies/interests outside of school:

I have worked at Toppings and Co Bookshop in Ely for three years, which I really enjoy as I love to read. I also love to bake, as well as just hanging out with my friends! I am lucky enough that in school I can enjoy the majority of my interests, like art and singing.

Any pets?

A ginger cat called Cooper.

What is your favourite meal/food at King’s?

I am vegetarian so I really love all the veggie options. My favourite would have to be curly fries and the aubergine and pesto parmigiana.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

I would love to pause time! I am quite sad about how fast time goes, and I would love the opportunity to have everything stop to organise myself.

Who is your hero?

The person who created coffee.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

Probably being appointed Queen’s Scholar for my GCSE results. I worked really hard and so to achieve this was very rewarding.

What was the last book you read?

'The Trial' by Franz Kafka.

What song are you most likely to sing at a karaoke?

'You’re So Vain' – Carly Simon.

What is your favourite film?

'About Time' - it is SO GOOD.

Do you have any phobias or fears?

I have a fear of splinters and falling down really steep hills. Very irrational I know.

If you could share a meal with any four individuals, living or dead, who would they be?

Queen Elizabeth II, Florence Pugh, Ally and G (a package deal for sure), and Dominic Sandbrook.

Name three things that you would want with you if you were stranded on a desert island for a week:

A good supply of books, a tent, and my sisters.
