OUR Senior Instrumental Music Festival kicked off on January 17th and musicians in Years 9-13 have been battling it out most afternoons after school this week.

Despite us not being able to host an audience at any of the heats due to the current circumstances, students have been on fantastic form performing to our Music Department staff members, who are judging the classes.

The highlight of the competition – the Finalists’ Concert – is taking place at Ely Cathedral on Thursday 10th February at 7pm (fingers crossed!).

The results so far are:

Year 12 and Year 13 Woodwind
Winner – Lauren Peck (saxophone). Highly Commended – Charlotte Bradley (recorder).

Year 12 and Year 13 Strings
Winner of bowed strings – Thomas Allen (violin). Winner of plucked strings – James Schoenberg (electric guitar).

Year 12 and Year 13 Brass
Winner – James Wilkinson (trombone). Highly Commended – Connor Marshall (trumpet) and Thomas Bateman (trombone).

Year 9 to Year 11 Brass
Winner – William Kirkup (trumpet).

Year 12 and Year 13 Piano
Winner – Eleanor MacGillivray. Highly Commended – Jessica Harding.

Well done to everyone who has performed so far and good luck to everyone taking part in next week’s heats!
