Eugene will be studying Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) at the University of Warwick after achieving the A-Level grades he needed.
Eugene, who is from Ukraine, joined our international programme in Year 11. He completed his IGCSEs and stayed at King's for Sixth Form.
Eugene studied Maths, Further Maths, Economics, and History at A-Level. He also completed an EPQ, titled 'To what extent can corruption be said to be the biggest issue holding back the Ukrainian economy?'
When asked what he plans to do career wise, Eugene said: "Great question! Most likely something Economics-related, but I am not exactly sure yet."
Eugene boarded in Hereward, which he says was "like a second home" to him. In Year 13, Eugene was appointed Co-Head of House. He said: "I will really miss my boarding house, which became like a second home to me. I think the main reason for this was the awesome work of all the staff – Mr Houlston, Ms Parr, Mr Batty, and Mr Palmer - who all supported me and helped me not to feel homesick whilst at King’s. Being joint Head of House in Year 13 meant I helped to organise House Singing. I was also Head of Debating for Hereward and participated in the Senior Debating Competition in my final year."
Eugene was a key member of our Basketball Team during his time at King's, and he enjoyed participating in several inter-school Model United Nations (MUN) events that we hold throughout the year.
Describing the teaching and learning environment at King's, Eugene said: "I really appreciated all of my teachers, and I felt that all of them wanted me to achieve my best. I knew that if I had some problems or tricky questions, I would be able to ask them to explain them to me, which happened frequently after my Economics and History classes! I was well supported by my teachers with both my coursework and EPQ work. My supervisors – Mr Foster and Mr Williams - helped me a lot, always giving me quick feedback on my drafts. Furthermore, for my History coursework, Mr Foster was very helpful in advising what sources to pick as my main ones."
When asked what he will miss most about King's, Eugene said: "Obviously my boarding house, but also the people. The community at King’s is awesome, with a lot of friendly and helpful people. Also, there are many school events throughout the year, including Sixth Form Socials, House Singing, House Football, International Concert, etc. King's successfully unites academic learning, great community spirit, and a wide variety of extra-curricular activities."
Congratulations Eugene - enjoy Warwick and keep in touch!
