CHORAL Evensong is being broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 from Ely Cathedral on Wednesday, January 30th.

Music will be performed by the Cathedral Choir consisting of the boy choristers and the lower voices, and conducted by Paul Trepte, Director of Music at Ely Cathedral. Edmund Aldhouse, Assistant Organist, will accompany the choir on the cathedral’s famous 1908 Harrison & Harrison organ.

The service will include music by Donald Hunt, former organist at Worcester Cathedral, who died last year. This will be particularly poignant for Paul Trepte, who had worked under the composer and musician at Worcester, and who will be conducting this live broadcast for the last time before he steps down as Director of Music in the spring.

Paul said: “It is always an honour to be invited to host Radio 3’s Choral Evensong, which reaches a global audience and is a great ambassador for choral music around the world. The music chosen for the broadcast is both inspiring and beautiful and it promises to be a wonderful service.”

Listen live on BBC Radio 3 on Wednesday at 3.30pm, or if you are in the Ely area, you are more than welcome to attend the event. The cathedral is asking that all members of the congregation be seated by 3.10pm.

The broadcast will be repeated at 4pm on Sunday, February 3rd.
