CONGRATULATIONS to King’s Ely Sixth Form student, Eleanor MacGillivray, who will be competing in the 2022 European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) this spring for the second year running!

Eleanor, who is in Year 13 and is our Head Girl, is one of only four girls chosen to represent the UK in the prestigious international competition. Her selection is as a result of her achieving 100% in the Mathematical Olympiad for Girls for the second year running, which placed her in the top 0.2% of entrants nationally.

The first ever EGMO was held at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge in 2012. Eleanor represented the UK in the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad in 2020 and the EGMO in 2021, but both had to be held virtually due to the pandemic.

This year, Eleanor, who is from the Bury St Edmunds area, is hoping that she and her teammates will get to travel to Eger in Hungary to compete in the event, which is due to take place in early April.

Eleanor is studying Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics for her A Levels, and has recently been offered a conditional place to read Mathematics at Trinity College, Cambridge.

Huge congratulations Eleanor – we wish you and ‘Team UK’ the best of luck in the competition!
