FAMILY favourite musical CATS is being staged at King’s Ely in March.

More than 30 King’s Ely Junior pupils will be starring in the Andrew Lloyd Webber production at King’s Ely’s Hayward Theatre on Friday and Saturday, March 24th and 25th.

Pupils in Years 5 to 8 auditioned for the all singing and dancing show back in September and tickets are now selling fast. The production is being directed by Kathryn Sudbury with musical direction by Neil Porter-Thaw and choreography by Natasha Hobbs.

Based on T.S. Eliot’s whimsical collection of poems, Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the popular musical brings together a tribe of Jellicle Cats on a moonlit evening, who must make the ‘Jellicle choice’ to decide which of them will ascend to the mysterious Heaviside Layer to be reborn.

Director of Drama and Theatre at King’s Ely, Nick Huntington, commented: “CATS is an international phenomenon and its original production is still the fourth longest-running show on Broadway. A magical, moving and often hilarious glimpse into the lives of others, CATS takes Eliot’s lyrical poetry and puts it into the mouths of King’s Ely Junior’s company of singing, dancing felines. Book your tickets early to avoid disappointment!”

The show is at 7pm each evening, plus there is a 2pm matinee performance on the Saturday. Tickets are £5 each. For tickets, please call (01353) 660730 or email clairerobbins@kingsely.org.
