THE annual Old Eleans vs King’s Ely 1st XI Cricket match took place on June 30th.

Beautiful sunshine shone over School Field for the fixture, which resulted in a draw.

Head of Sport at King’s Ely, Jim Thompson, said: “The annual King’s Ely 1st XI vs Old Eleans Cricket fixture is always a special occasion which was made even more so for the 1st XI, who got presented with their new 1st XI duck egg baggy caps before the start of the match.

“The 1st XI batted first with Year 11 pair of Toby Whittome and David Thomson both scoring 50s before retiring. Captain Tom Claxton scored 34 and Callum Hall hit a blistering 54* off 26 balls to end the inning on 240-2 off 40 overs.

“The 1st XI continued to bowl well and took wickets at regular intervals with the pick of the bowlers being Archie Haynes and Callum Hall. The Old Eleans’ lower order batsman battled well with Mr Simon Blake putting on a very steady 42 not out, which meant the match ended in a draw.

“This was a fantastic effort from the 1st team, who were a real credit to the school throughout. The Old Eleans commented on how well they played and what a hugely enjoyable day it was. Thank you to everyone who made the day such a great success.”
