Kudos to our newly-formed Under 18 Basketball Team for winning their first match of the season just before half term!

The squad enjoyed a highly-competitive game against Finborough School and won 45-37.

Basketball is proving increasingly popular here at King’s, hence the formation of our new Under 18 team. The squad is made up of around fifteen students in Years 11 to 13, who train together in two Games sessions each week, as well as during an after-school club every Monday. They are coached by Dr Daniel Gabelman.

The team are enjoying playing regularly against other schools, and we are currently in talks with several other local independent schools about setting up a new league.

Mr Alex Meddle, who is Director of Sport at King’s Ely Senior, said: “Over the last couple of years, there has been an increase in student demand to introduce a basketball programme here at King’s. We pride ourselves on providing opportunities in a range of different participation sports, which does now include basketball. There is a core group of pupils who really push the standards, and it is fantastic to see these pupils representing the school in the sport. It is also great to be working with other local independent schools to start to build a Cambridgeshire League. As well as this, we hope to develop a recreational Under 15 side and attract more girls to attend the basketball club and training sessions.”
