HANNAH Roberts, widely regarded as one of the most outstanding cellists of her generation, will be performing a series of moving and uplifting classical and romantic cello sonatas and other duos with her husband, pianist and composer Simon Parkin, on June 20.

The concert takes place at the King’s Ely Recital Hall, The Gallery, Ely and is part of the King’s Ely Concert Society series.

The recital opens with the well-loved Sonata in G minor composed by Beethoven when he was 26, followed by the famous and lyrical Elegy by Fauré. An intense and virtuosic cello sonata by Debussy follows; this unforgettable piece was composed in 1915 in the early years of World War I, just three years before the composer’s death. After the interval, Hannah and Simon will perform the passionate and optimistic Theme and Variations, written by 20 year old Felix Mendelssohn. The recital finishes with another youthful composition: the uplifting Sonata in F by Richard Strauss, written when he was 19.

The recital starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £15 for adults; children are free. To book, please call Sophie Collier on 01353 653931 or email boxoffice@kingsely.org
