“Yesterday, this section of King’s Ely voted for the charities they wished to support throughout 2023. Each House had selected one charity to offer for selection at the children’s vote. In a special assembly, the nominated children from each House presented the case for a charity in impassioned and convincing ways. Their example to us and the wider sense of responsibility and compassion their assembly encapsulated were deeply impressive.

“The children ultimately selected Cancer Research UK for their charity this year, and colleagues are pleased to be supporting Gist Cancer UK, based locally and responsible for Mrs Roberts, Deputy Head Academic, being back with us so speedily following her diagnosis last year thanks to their work. Our celebration of the hope that new treatments and research offer the children and all of us for the future will be the focus to our year ahead, full of fun and frolics, whilst we all gain a better understanding of medicine, research and compassion for others.

“We will begin with a special Pancake Day on the Tuesday of the week we return after the half term break. Half term begins this evening and we hope that you will all enjoy a healthy and restful week with the children. The last five weeks have built an excellent momentum and positive expectations for the rest of the school year. We have been very pleased to see the children engaging so enthusiastically and look forward to all that the second half of term will offer.”
