LAST week, Steve Merrell, Head of Film Studies, spoke in the Cathedral about moments of awe and wonder, retelling one such moment as he watched the opening sequences of the first Star Wars film back in 1977 (some of us will remember?).

Steve concluded his talk by encouraging the school community to “Leave your heart open to the awe and wonder in this world. Don’t get too cynical, too miserable… Let yourself be surprised, delighted and celebrate it.”

I was reminded of these words as I watched the final of the Senior Instrumental Music Festival in the Cathedral last night (February 13th). The quality of the performances by our pupils was phenomenal and certainly provided moments to leave your heart open to awe and wonder. Thank you to all pupils and staff involved in the final and throughout the competition.

All the very best and I hope you have some moments of ‘awe and wonder’ over half term.
