“THE last few days have seen the return of competitive sport, live music and live drama. Whilst cross-country running might not typically be associated with joy, it was one of a number of events in recent days breathing life back into school.

“It has been a joy to see so much activity: pupils competing in various house sports, Year 13 actors performing their devised drama, and perhaps one of the most joyful moments of the last few days was the final of the instrumental music festival on Thursday evening. The adjudicator, Sarah James, spoke afterwards of the joy of being able to experience live music. Even with a mask on, the joy on her face was clear as she listened to the finalists perform.

“Maya Angelou’s words: ‘We need joy as we need air” is a truth that I would draw from the last twelve months. I very much hope that whatever your circumstances, you are able to experience some joy over the Easter break.

“All the very best.”
