“I WAS delighted to welcome James Shone to Prizegiving today. Whilst the circumstances are far from ideal with only a limited number present in the Cathedral, James agreed to talk to our Year 9s and Year 10s during the morning so that they all heard his message.

“He is an exceptional individual. I first met James in 2001 when I worked with him in Kenya before he lost his sight. His story is summed up in this short clip. It is 7 minutes well spent.

“James has a passion to see pupils flourish and grow in self-worth through his charity ‘I can and I am’. His story of coping with the loss of his sight continues to impact positively on all those that know him or hear him speak.

“All the very best.”
