“What a super start to the new term we have all enjoyed this week. It was clear at the beginning of the week that the children were very pleased to return as the sound of happy chatter in the hallway filled everyone with a sense of excitement for being back together and for what the term has in store for us all. I have to say, however, that by the end of the week there were definitely more yawns and quieter voices as the first week back caught up with us but that is what settling back into routines is all about!

“The anticipation and curiosity around the start of our new topics for this term has added to the excitement this week, and we have already welcomed visitors into school to launch Reception’s ‘Exploring Biomes’ scheme of learning for this term. Year 1 are exploring the wealth of learning in their ‘One Giant Leap’ topic about space, and Year 2 are already deep into the alterative storytelling of some well-known traditional tales from around the world. Nursery have wasted no time in getting their welly boots on to play and explore in our frosty garden and wildlife area. Nursery 2 have also begun those early steps to moving up to Reception with the start of the Early Years Story Time sessions, with Mrs Funnell being the first of the Reception Teachers to read to the children.

“It seems some time ago now that our week began at the Cathedral. Pre-Prep children took part in the Whole School Service, and it really set us up for the term as we listened to Mr Attwater’s thoughtful and encouraging words. We will next attend the Cathedral Service on Wednesday 14th February just before we break up for the half term holiday. Before then, new House Captains will be announced, new School Councillors will be elected, and I look forward to catching up with parents during our ‘At homes’, Book Share, and Information Evening. As ever, please look out for relevant dates within our school mailings.

“With my best wishes for a happy and relaxing weekend.”
