A LEVEL Government and Politics students were fortunate to hear Gina Miller speak in Ely on September 13th thanks to an event organised by Topping and Company Booksellers.

Gina came to prominence when she brought one of the most significant constitutional cases ever to be heard in the British Supreme Court. Gina successfully challenged the UK government’s authority to trigger Article 50 – the formal notification to leave the European Union – without parliamentary approval.

In her new book, entitled Rise, Gina Miller draws on a lifetime of fighting injustice and looks at the moments that made her; the trauma, failures and successes that gave her the confidence in her voice, the ability to know how to use it and the strength not to let others diminish it, whatever the cost.

Teacher of History and Government and Politics at King’s Ely Senior, Sharon Jackson, said: “Gina talked about her life and of particular interest to the students were her views on the constitution, democracy and the current state of British Politics.

“Year 13 student Honor Whitehead asked Gina a question about whether she believed, given the confusing nature of our constitution, it should be codified. A great way to kick off the Politics course!”
