YEAR 9 Stage Camp is such a fantastic way to give our King’s Ely Senior joiners a flavour of what Ely Scheme Outdoor Education is all about!

The camp saw 105 students from Year 9, 21 Pupil Instructors and a team of staff members setting up camp at Bradfield Park Scout Campsite in Suffolk for an action-packed two days.

James Houlston, our Director of Outdoor Education, said: “On the Thursday, pupils enjoyed a range of activities, all of which were designed to help develop their communication skills and ability to work well in a team. After these activities, students had to construct their own tents and cook their own meals, which mainly consisted of pasta and tomato sauce. In the evening, we all spent time in our House groups, sitting around campfires, toasting marshmallows and at various points most Houses were having a good old sing-song!

“The Friday morning was a 10km walk in some very hot and humid conditions. The groups did amazingly well but some of the staff map was a little questionable!

“We would like to thank the Year 9s for their spirited efforts throughout the two days, as well as the Pupil Instructors and staff who helped to facilitate such an excellent camp.”

Ely Scheme is our unique outdoor education programme that is available to students in Years 9-13.
