SENIOR Girls’ House Hockey fixtures went ahead this term, despite the circumstances, with girls competing in year group bubbles instead.

Chanre Bond, Head of Girls’ Games at King’s Ely Senior, said all girls played with “great effort and in good spirits”.

Miss Bond said: “The Year 9 Torfrida and Withburga teams had a closely-contested game, ending in a 2-1 victory to Withburga. Standout players in the winning team were Ciara Comley and Hettie Robson, who combined really well in the attack, and Anya Hjaltun-Rayner who played a vital role in defence.

“The Year 10 group played a combination of 11-a-side and 7-a-side matches for their tournament. Once again it was Withburga who won. The Withburga 11-a-side team dominated from the start but Torfrida nearly caused an upset after putting in some sterling performances in the 7-a-side matches. It was however Withburga who snatched victory and the overall house champions title. A true team performance from all the girls!

“The senior competition saw three Houses competing in some very closely-contested matches. We had Torfrida, Withburga and a combined Boarders Team vying for the title. Withburga beat Torfrida 1-0 in the first match of the day, Withburga then went on to make it a double by beating the Boarders 1-0 and finally Torfrida and the Boarders drew 1-1 in the final match. In goal, Olivia Haynes kept a clean sheet with some super saves. Tessa controlled the defensive line with Alexandra, Tabby, Millie and Liv leading the attack. Withburga deservedly took the honours and ensured a clean sweep of titles for their House.

“Well done to all the girls for the great effort and spirit in which all of the matches were played!”
