In which year group did you join King’s Ely?

I joined King’s Ely Junior in Year 6, after moving to Ely from Welwyn Garden City.

What GCSE grades did you achieve this summer (2019)?

I achieved four grade 9s, four grade 8s and two grade 7s.

Were you pleased with your results?

I was really proud of what I got! I didn’t expect to do as well as I did, as I scored very differently in my mock exams.

Were you well supported by your teachers in the lead up to your exams?

Absolutely, my teachers all offered countless support sessions outside lessons and planned revision sessions, many of which I attended.

Why have you chosen to stay at King’s Ely for Sixth Form, and what are you most looking forward to?

I’ve chosen to stay at King’s Ely for Sixth Form because the encouraging atmosphere here has really allowed me to feel that I can ask for help when I need it, and the teachers are always interested in me as an individual. I’m really looking forward to studying the subjects that interest me most and having more flexibility and independence in my studies.

What A Level subjects are you going to be studying and, if you know this yet, what sort of career are you hoping to pursue?

I’m going to study Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics for A Level as I would like to pursue a career in Medicine; I’m particularly interested in becoming a Pathologist.

What extra-curricular and enrichment activities are you/have you been involved with at King’s Ely, and how do you feel this enhances your experience of school?

I used to row for King’s Ely and took part in regattas. In 2016, I was part of the youngest crew to complete the River Great Ouse Marathon, which I was very proud of. So far, I’ve completed Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver, and I would like to continue to Gold. I am also working towards taking my Grade 6 exam on the clarinet, and I have played in orchestras and bands throughout Junior and Senior School here.

In what ways do you think King’s Ely is different to other schools?

When I first joined King’s Ely, I was shocked at how different it was in comparison to my previous school in the way that it focuses on all aspects such as Sport, Music, Drama and Academic equally rather than just favouring one. This gives you the chance to explore all your options and maximise your potential. King’s Ely is also located in a really unique and historic city which is renowned for Ely Cathedral, in which school assemblies are held.
