STUDENTS and staff in Wendreda House at King’s Ely Senior are making fantastic progress on their charity walk/run for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS)!

As many of you will know, girls in Wendreda and their Housemistress, Laura Dixon-Smith, are walking and/or running the distance from John O’Groats to Land’s End – 1,308 kilometres – in memory of their beloved Matron, Liz Firek.

Liz was one of our original House Matrons, joining King’s in October 2004. She was Matron of School House and then moved to Wendreda House as Matron a couple of years ago. Liz sadly lost her battle with COVID-19 on January 23rd.

Liz also suffered with Rheumatoid Arthritis and all funds raised through ‘Wendreda Walks’ will be donated to NRAS in Liz’s memory.

Speaking this afternoon (March 17th), Miss Dixon-Smith said: “We are now so close to Land’s End! We have travelled 1,268 kilometres so far and have a mere 41 kilometres to go. However, we would love to raise even more money for NRAS and so are continuing to push ourselves to walk/run as far as possible between now and the end of term.

“Top students this week are Sofia Dyuzheva and Momoko Noguchi, who have walked a combined total of 110 kilometres between them!”

Wendreda Walks has raised more than £1,100 for NRAS so far. To make a donation, please visit: https://bit.ly/3aT4OD1
