KING’S Ely’s U14A Hockey girls came a very respectable third in the Regional Tier 2 Tournament at the University of East Anglia (UEA).

The girls started well with a 1-0 win over Wymondham College in the competition on November 15th and were unlucky not to get another win against Bedford School.

Sports Coach, Caroline Daniel, said: “King’s Ely were leading until the final minutes when Bedford scored to secure a 1-1 draw. Sutton Valance proved a tough team to play and despite upping their game, King’s Ely lost 2-0. This didn’t dampen their spirits though and next they played their best game of the tournament with a great 4-0 win over Coopers’ Company and Coborn School.

“Olivia Jenkins slotted home a well worked team goal and then Xenia Marshall scored three times in quick succession. With a final draw against Benenden School, the girls finished in a creditable third place overall.

“This was a great effort by all the team and they demonstrated some superb Hockey throughout the day. A number of the umpires commented on how impressed they were with their play. Well done girls!”
