BROTHERS Tom and Kit Gandy, who are both pupils at King’s Ely Junior, have raised £500 for Jimmy’s Cambridge.
Jimmy’s works with volunteers and partner agencies to deliver 24/7 emergency accommodation for the homeless in Cambridge.
Tom and Kit wanted to raise funds and awareness for the charity and decided to get a tiny glimpse of what it is like to be homeless by making a shelter in their garden and sleeping outside on Saturday (February 13th) night.
The siblings made their shelter by leaning an old wooden panel up against a fence and putting groundsheets inside. They wore warm clothes and had a sleeping bag each, but were still pretty exposed to the elements.
Tom said: “It was very cold and very windy! The cardboard we lined the inside with kept blowing which made an annoying noise, but I slept quite well and saw the stars. It made me feel very lucky to have a heated house to live in.”
Well done chaps – what a fantastic way to raise funds and awareness!
