ACCLAIMED tenor Nicky Spence and pianist Andrew Matthews-Owen will be delighting an audience at King’s Ely this November.
Spence, whose debut album My First Love, was recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and Matthews-Owen, whose concert engagements have taken him to major venues across the globe, will be performing at King’s Ely’s Recital Hall on Wednesday, November 29th.
The musical extravaganza is being held as part of the King’s Ely Recital Series’ 25th season programme and members of the public are invited to attend.
Ever since his first recital at King’s Ely in 2010, Scottish tenor Spence has been a firm favourite with audiences and students alike, combining an irrepressible verve and humour in his stagecraft with the technical mastery of an accomplished artist. He is a regular performer on the stage of the world’s major opera houses and this season he makes his debut at the Royal Opera House in Janácek’s final work, From the House of the Dead.
Spence is also much in demand on the recital platform performing in such notable venues as the Wigmore Hall, Kings Place, Purcell Room, Amsterdam Concertgebouw and the Royal Festival Hall, and collaborating with the likes of Malcolm Martineau, Julius Drake, Roger Vignoles and Graham Johnson.
His discography includes amongst others the forthcoming final disc of Roger Vignoles’ Strauss Song Series (Hyperion) and the recital on November 29th will include music by Britten, Weill and Jonathan Dove.
Accompanying Spence will be Welsh pianist and accompanist Matthews-Owen, who enjoys a busy career partnering some of the UK’s leading singers, on the concert platform, on record and as a performance and vocal coach.
He has also appeared in words and music revues, with actors and personalities including Alexander Armstrong, Katie Derham and in numerous performances of A Celebration of Jane Austen with actors Robert Powell, Elizabeth Garvie and flautist Clive Conway.
