KYLIE Perry from Paper Birds theatre company visited King’s Ely on October 9th to host our evening Senior Theatre Masterclass.

More than 20 students from Years 9 to 13 came together for the workshops, which kept pupils on their toes as they worked on creating a devised performance from a variety of short physical tasks.

Laura Dixon, Arts Award Coordinator and Teacher of Drama at King’s Ely, said: “Sixth Form students worked effectively with Year 9-11 students and everybody took advantage of the opportunities to learn from one another.

“During the course of the evening, students created five different stereotypical characters and performed them in unison; one physical painting of a picture; a soundscape of different responses to an image; and a small piece of script in the style of an advert or fairy tale. Each of these mini pieces were then linked into one final, seamless performance, all in two hours!

“This plethora of techniques will definitely help our Year 10 and 12 Drama students as they work on creating their devised pieces next term. A highly productive and enjoyable evening was had by all – thank you to Kylie for leading such an interesting and engaging workshop!”
